Great video with lots of ideas packed into 5 minutes. I, too, agree with Elizabeth Gilbert. It’s such a privilege and joy when our passions intersect with our profession, but it’s not always reality. Sometimes our passions stay as hobbies and that’s fine — we get to anticipate the joy of tending a garden, sewing a garment, or writing a blog. Working it into a profession may take time and creativity.
I really LOVE Big Magic too and that part about not tying our creative pursuits to our livelihood changed my life. It was SO FREEING for me to reframe how I see that (I always wanted to be an artist, I have a BFA) and thought the real goal would be to support myself doing art — something only .5% of BFAs actually do. My mom is a big on the “live your passions”, so I never really saw it another way. Anyway – loving your posts about it!
